NL Star of the Week Named Monday, August 7th, 1939 At the age of 31, Babe Phelps might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Philadelphia catcher put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .500 batting average. For his efforts Phelps collected the National League Player of the Week Award. He racked up 9 hits in 18 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 6 games. To date Phelps has chalked up a .305 average with 6 home runs, driven in 45 runs and scored 45 times. |
