Chicago Helpless Against Matlock, Lose 1-0 Wednesday, May 10th, 1939 Leroy Matlock held the Chicago Cubs to 5 hits and fashioned a fine 1-0 shutout at Braves Field today. Speaking after the game, Boston Bees manager said "Matlock had everything going for him today." He changed speeds effectively, stayed down, had a lot of movement," he said. "He was masterful." Matlock rung up 4 strikeouts and surrendered no walks in the game. "We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," Chicago manager told reporters.
