Triple Crown Year for Greenberg
Tuesday, October 4th, 1938
Hank Greenberg is sitting on top of the world tonight. He got himself a Triple Crown this year -- the 12th player in NL/AL history to ever accomplish this feat.

The Detroit Tigers left fielder outpaced the rest of the American League offensively this year. Greenberg, age 27, hit .401, collected 48 home runs, and chipped in 140 RBIs for the Tigers. He led in all three categories to capture the Triple Crown, one of the rarer feats in baseball.

"It's all about hard work," noted one club official. "Hank arrives early, takes extra BP and really make a science of hitting. He religiously studies the pitchers. Keeps a journal on all of 'em. He's very thorough."
