Cannady Nabs NL Weekly Award Monday, September 12th, 1938 Walter Cannady, known affectionately as "the old man" by the younger players in the Pirates clubhouse, showed his teammates how to do it last week -- and in the process the 36-year-old vet beat out all competition for the National League Player of the Week Award. He put up a .484 batting average, 15 hits in 31 at-bats, 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. Cannady also scored 10 runs. For the season Cannady has hit .354 with 10 home runs and 65 RBIs. He has played in 119 games and scored 91 times. |
