Cardinals End Waner's Streak
Sunday, September 4th, 1938
It was a doubly miserable day today for Paul Waner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he saw his 25-game hitting streak end and his team lose 6-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Forbes Field. The 35-year-old right fielder was held hitless in 3 at-bats by the Cardinals.
"Anyone on a 25-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," St. Louis manager said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done."
Waner on the season is batting .371 with 4 home runs. His totals include 76 RBIs and 76 runs scored. He has played in 122 games.
