Cardinals Kress Smacks 5 Hits Saturday, July 23rd, 1938 5 times is the charm -- at least for Red Kress. The St. Louis Cardinals shortstop tore up the Brooklyn Dodgers to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats at Sportsman's Park IV (NL) today. The offensive onslaught from Kress powered the Cardinals to a 11-3 win. "Kress was a tough out today," Brooklyn manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure." Red Kress hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
