New York Blanks Chicago Behind Carleton
Saturday, July 23rd, 1938
It wasn't easy but Tex Carleton made it look that way.
Carleton silenced the Chicago White Sox, 4-0, in a New York Yankees triumph at Yankee Stadium I today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Carleton said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 7 walks and 5 hits.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."
This year Carleton has compiled a 7-2 mark with a 3.91 ERA in 9 starts.
