Swift Dominates, Whitewashes Phillies
Wednesday, July 29th, 1936
Bill V Swift shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 on a 3-hit masterpiece for the Cincinnati Reds at Baker Bowl today.
"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Cincinnati skipper said afterward.
Swift registered 1 strikeout and issued 1 walk in pitching a gem.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Philadelphia manager after the defeat.
This season Swift has crafted a 9-9 mark with a 4.59 ERA in 164.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .283 against him and he has 55 strikeouts.
