Solons on Verge of World Series Sweep After Taking Third Straight Road Contest from Cards
An all-important Game Three of the World Series went into extra innings at Sportsman's Park, with the Sacramento Solons eventually emerging on top. Sacramento has Josh Gibson to thank, after the catcher was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times in the 6-5 victory. The Solons are now one game away from the world title, holding a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

It could have been a different outcome for Sacramento, had it not been for pinch-hitter Steve Mesner. Mesner contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the 12th inning to put Sacramento up, 6-5.

"I don't care a whit about getting a sweep," Gibson said. "The only part of it that matters to me is it means we've got a lot of chances to get that last win."

The next game is scheduled for Thursday, October 20th, 1938. The scheduled starters for the game are Mort Cooper for St. Louis and Hilton Smith for Sacramento.
