Freitas Handcuffs Padres, Solons Seize 2-0 Advantage in PCL Championship Series
The Sacramento Solons got an exceptional performance from starter Tony Freitas, who silenced the San Diego offense en route to a 5-0 shutout win in Game 2 of the Nyquist Trophy Series today. The Padres could never get a bead on the left-handed Freitas, who threw 9 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The Solons now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Freitas pitched a complete game for Sacramento. The left-hander was charged with no runs on 6 hits. He struck out 5 during his 125-pitch performance.

Freitas told a Sacramento News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

The next game is scheduled for Friday, October 7th, 1938 in San Diego. Slated to start are Hilton Smith for the Sacramento Solons and Dick Barrett for the the San Diego Padres.
