Philadelphia Athletics Are Champs
|
The Philadelphia
Athletics ignited a huge celebration as they beat the
St. Louis Cardinals
7-5 to win the Eastern Championship Series.
Philadelphia won the series 4-1, capturing the title for the
6th time.
"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the
champs," said Philadelphia manager . "It's a great feeling."
The champs finished the regular season 97-57 and claimed
first place in the American League.
In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series
MVP and first baseman Jimmie
Foxx said the Athletics have "great fans and they
deserve this."
"I am so happy for our city right now," he said.
