Solons Get Past Beavers 7-3 to Open PCL Championship Series
The Sacramento Solons started the Nyquist Trophy Series in style today, winning on the road against the Portland Beavers at Vaughn Street Park by a score of 7-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Solons shortstop Joe Cronin was named player of the game after he went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2.

Tied up with the Beavers in the top of the fifth inning, the Solons got a boost from right fielder Charlie Smith. With a runner on 2nd, Smith saw a 0-2 fastball from Larry French and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Sacramento on top, 3-2.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Smith.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Vaughn Street Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Fay Thomas for Sacramento and Bill Posedel for Portland.
